Any of four muscles with their origins from the sides of the adjacent metatarsal bones, with insertion of the first and the second into the proximal phalanx of the second toe and with insertion of the third and the fourth into the proximal phalanx of the third and the fourth toes, with nerve supply from the lateral plantar nerve, and by whose action the first adducts the second toe, and the second, third, and fourth abduct the second, the third, and the fourth toes.
