Rushdie, Salman

An Indian-born twentieth-century British writer of acclaimed novels such as Midnight's Children and Shame. He went into hiding after the publication of The Satanic Verses, a modern fable of good and evil, which prompted Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini to demand his execution.
