He had begged Nobunaga to aid him in this great design, but had only been laughed at for his pains.
The plan was conceived by Nobunaga, begun by Hideyoshi, and completed by Iyeyasu.
Nobunaga also repaired the imperial palace, and restored it to its ancient and long-forgotten splendor.
