My surprise on first beholding the famous city of Mukden was as complete as it was agreeable.
There was plenty of time therefore to explore Mukden, although the town was over twenty miles away.
The line of trenches throughout the winter of 1904-05 before Mukden were much the same type as those along the Aisne.
From Harbin on this railway a branch runs south to Mukden, which since 1908 has become an important railway centre.
But the town itself is very primitive, and far behind the other two chief towns, Kirin and Mukden.
