When Kullervo grows up, he spoils all his work, and therefore Untamo sells him as a slave to Ilmarinen (203-374).
Now not long after this a child was born to Untamala, and she named him Kullervo.
Kullervo drove them off to their pastures in the woods, carrying his lunch in a basket on his arm.
But Kullervo hastened on, and as he went he mourned his hard lot.
Kullervo prepares for war and leaves home joyfully, for no one but his mother is sorry that he is going to his death (1-154).
