While the Kassite dynasty was reigning, a new kingdom arose in the north, that of Assyria.
It grew independent during the latter period of the Kassite dynasty, and its kings formed compacts with the Kassites.
It was probably a centre of discontent during the whole period of Kassite ascendancy.
But not until well on in the Kassite period did any of them attain prominence in Western Asia.
Unfortunately the artistic relics of the Kassite period are few, and for the most part unimportant.
