“In Flanders Fields”

A poem about World War I by the Canadian author John McCrae, describing the scene of some of the worst fighting of the war; the “speakers” of the poem are the dead. It begins:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place....
