Hemingway, Ernest

A twentieth-century American author; one of the lost generation of Americans living in Paris during the 1920s. In such books as A Farewell to Arms, The Sun Also Rises, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Old Man and the Sea, he glorified heroic male exploits, such as bullfighting, boxing, and safari hunting. Hemingway is known for his simple, short sentences and his lively dialogue.
