Jacopo Peri and Caccini were among the first workers in the comparatively new form, and they both took the same subject, Eurydice.
Caccini's setting of Rinuccini's poem is similar in general style to that of Peri.
I see very little Wagner in it; it is more like Caccini or Monteverde.
Vocal colorature, which had already appeared in the dramatic pieces of Caccini, became the most beloved means of effect.
It appears also from Peri's preface that he had some assistance from Caccini in writing his score.
