David did not do this “in the days of Abiathar,” but in the days of Ahimelech.
Ahimelech was a grandson of Eli, and the other massacred priests were probably of Elis blood.
But what shall we say of the untruth which David told Ahimelech, to account for his coming there without armed attendants?
But Abiathar, one of the sons of Ahimelech, escaped and fled to David.
What an uncontrollable condition that temper must have been in when the death of Ahimelech was decreed, and all his fathers house!
